Standards Based Grading

Standards based report cards have become a common way or grading students academic abilities. Standards based grading is grading students based on each standard. It typically consists of a scale of 1-4 with one being developing and level 4 being mastery. It it different from other traditional grading practices because with traditional grading, students get an average of all test scores for each subject, and the standards are not broken down in that grade. The pros of standards based grading is that teachers, students, and parents can see where students strengths and areas of improvement are based on each standard. The cons of standards based grading is that it is time consuming for teachers.
